Saturday, Nov 1st, 10pm at RHYTHM Holy Goat Ensemble Benefit Show for Morikeba Kouyate with drummygirl (members of Groove Ova) and the Rhythm Sisters!!
A few days ago, Morikeba Kouyate was shot 3 times in an unprovoked attack on his life in Chicago. Since the shots were all in his legs, his life is in no immediate danger from the attack. I can't believe it either.

All proceeds from this show will be dontated to help him pay for medical bills and such.
About West African Kora (West African harp) Master Morikeba Kouyate - in addition to being one of the kindest, most peaceful and beautiful people I know, Morikeba's family lineage, the Kouyate's, date back over 800 years as griot's (storytellers and keepers of the oral history) in Senegal, West Africa.
Holy Goat Ensemble (Taylor, John Knecht, Wolfy, Marc Sandrolini, Doug Brush) will headline the evening, playing West African djembe orchestra music and songs from Guinea and Cote d'Ivoire.
Opening the evening (at 10pm) will be the Rhythm Sisters (Jeni Swerdlow's class Tues evening class at Rhythm) and drummygirl (Members of Groove Ova)- bring your dancin' feet!!!

$10 cover at the door (all of it goes to Morikeba)
Sat, Nov 15th - CELEBRATE RHYTHM'S FIRST ANNIVERSARY WITH DAHUI!!!

Randolph in Chicago, has been spreading the drummy word for a whole year - come out to celebrate with Chicago's Premier Djembe Orchestra, DAHUI (pronounced DAH-WEEEEEEEE!!) - we have upgraded the booty bin to industrial size after the record number of booties danced off at our last appearance at Rhythm - so bring 'em and shake 'em!!!!! Drummers, healers and those in need of healing (which is everyone to one extent or another) mark your calendars!
There will be a DruMeditation session in the Spartan Building (see address above). This is a vibrational meditation with drumming all around the room with guided meditation by gifted storyteller John Williams and a crew of drummers headed by Taylor. This the second in a series of two consecutive workshops building from the first to the second - it is recommended that both be attended; if you cannot make both, however, you will be accommodated.

The vibration of the drum is very powerful and healing. Research is being done by Dr. Barry Bittmann in the area of vibrational healing with the drum. This deep sound vibration resonates in harmony with every cell in your body. Come join us for this powerful DruMeditation experience! Please bring a blanket & pillow to make yourself comfortable.

Space is available - contact Dawn 708-424-7145 or email her at sunnrising@aol.com!
Cost: is a sliding scale starting at $30 per session and up Cash Only Please! Time: 7:30pm-till 9:00ish - the DruMeditation is 90 minutes.

please arrive early; latecomers may not be able to be let in the space.

"Deep within the essence of who we are there's a sound, a vibration, an emanation that expresses life from every cell. It resonates in harmony with all living creatures - an inner voice ready to emerge as a vital heartbeat that inscribes a personal signature. The rhythm of life is a symphony - the expression of our soul revealed by the conductor within. Our unique voice resounds through the way we choose to live. When we connect with each other and extend ourselves to one another, we share our gift".
