These are the best drums in the world - hands down. The creators of WULA drum, Michael and Tom, care about the people of Guinea. Tom lives there most of the time and Michael is a master drummer who trained in Guinea with members of Ballet Africains (official ballet of Guinea), both in Guinea and here in the US, and he is an active teacher and performer in NYC. Tom and Michael have elevated the quality of Djembe's continuously by combining USA knowledge of materials (better rope, rings, wood finishing oils etc.) along with techniques like the rubber bottom, rolled tops, carving like never seen before etc. - They are constantly improving the djembe manufacturing process while making sure the master carvers are paid accordingly (which is very different from the poor employees of the hacked up tourist drums many try to sell as real djembes). After having played an ok drum from Ivory coast and then making two of my own, I finally paid a little extra for a WULA drum, and looking back, I wish I had saved up a little and bought a WULA drum right from the start. These drums blow away anything else on the market, both from an audio quality and visual standpoint. I have since had two drummers FROM Africa offer me TWO of their drums for mine. Straight up.
